Sierra Cascade LLC is a leading producer of Horticultural Pumice, a clean, light weight, and dust free product, which make it easy to work with. It's porous, so it provides airspace to the roots, space for water to reach root zones as well as providing space for drainage to avoid drowning plant roots. Turflite TM, another pumice product, is used in baseball fields. Turflite has a high absorbtion rate. For example, 1" of Turflite will absorb a half inch of water. This enables playtime on the baseball field to continue in wet climates. Turflite works the same way in arid climates by absorbing water, then slowly releasing it.
